As an interior designer, having to turn a room with no windows and a low ceiling high into a comfortable space for working, it is not an easy challenge.

When asked to design a new office for Duke Language School, I had to solve the problem of fitting 24 people in a small room inclusive of teachers and IT staff. The room felt cold and stagnant with limited space and no windows.

The interior designer job

My job was to transform it into a warm, comfortable and attractive environment that feels “at home”.

The first move as office interior designer Bangkok was to install a very practical flooring done with a click-clack PVC  system, very easy to install.

After a careful analysis and taking into consideration that most of the office workers are teachers and female gender, I decided to install in the two lateral long walls several panels with black mirrors ( golden effect ) with a separation between them made with white brick wall decoration and  LED vertical downlighting on them, providing an illusion of space with a feminine touch and a stunning effect.

The use of white brick walls between mirrors and at the front of the entrance wall where the company plaque is mounted is pivotal in transforming the room into a modern, sophisticated and stylish office.

A partition wall is placed in front of the entrance to create a sense of privacy. This wall has the double function to not allow people to look inside the office from outside, and vice-versa.

The back of the wall is the perfect place to mount a 55 inch smart TV for training, video conferencing and entertainment.

It is a Logo sign important for a company?

The company Logo sign is truly important. This is designed to give a sense of modern and unique touch and is made with a brushed copper laser cut sign with a backlighting LED system. Four wall laser light effect make like an ideal light frame for the logo itself.

Matter of custom-made furniture

All interiors are custom-made including the desks that come with a laser-cut metal partition installed with electrical sockets hidden in recessed boxes. The desks are also arranged strategically to provide ease of passage for 24 people and can be easily rearranged if necessary.

The art to convert obstacles in useful things

One of the biggest challenges of all was to hide the low concrete beam at the back of the room that was impossible to remove. My solution was to custom build a full-sized long sliding door system like a wardrobe that’d transform the concrete beam into a shelf, creating a huge space for storage all office materials and office documents

Solving this problem was much easier said than done, as the floor and ceiling were not leveled. Once this was complete, it added a touch of minimalism to the room with the benefit of functionality.

The ceiling is enhanced by removing the fluorescent lights. It is replaced with 6 white conceptual floating bases. The inner part of the ceiling is painted black to add depth and contrast. Warm LED spotlights are installed to enhance the mood with bright and warm colors that’d compliment the wooden tones of the floor, furniture, brown mirrors, white bricks, and grey wallpaper.

The final result is an outstanding office who gives to the working staff, thorough the bright tones, the right relaxing mood and a sense of tranquillity necessary to feel like at home while working.
